Elements of Style

1. Use the active voice.
- The active voice is usually more direct than the passive.Example:
You should pay the bill.
The bill should be paid.

2. Put statements in positive form. It is better to express even a negative in positive form.
- Linda doesn´t arrive very often on time.
- Linda usually arrives late.
- not honest - dishonest
- not important - trifling
- did not remember - forgot
- did not pay any attention to - ignored
- did not have much confidence in - distruted

3. A sentence should contain no unnecessary words.You can cut the unncessary words. examples:
- the question as to whether - the question whether
- there is no dubt but that - no doubt
- used for fuel porposes - used for fuel
- he is a man who - he
- in a hasty manner - hastity
- this is a subject that - this subject
- Her story is a strange one - Her story is strange
- the reason why is that - because
- the fact that he had not succeeded - his failure
- the fact that I have arrive - my arrival
